Practice with Purpose

Simulation-Based Education

Simulation is a valuable learning strategy for nursing students as they develop their clinical competency and reflective thinking skills. Utilizing high-fidelity simulators and sophisticated medical equipment creates realistic medical environments and allows students to transfer their learning from the classroom to the clinical setting.  Specific learning objectives are related to patient-centered care, safety, communication and teamwork. Simulation provides valuable insight to the ability to think critically during a high-stakes, low-frequency event. In addition, cultural and ethical dilemmas are embedded into simulation exercises, allowing students to evaluate and reflect on their knowledge, beliefs and attitudes.

Nursing Skills Lab

Two fully equipped skills labs with a total of 20 beds, each featuring fully functional headwalls, ceiling lifts, and patient monitors. These labs support clinical skills development during on-campus clinicals and are available for additional practice during open lab hours.

Outpatient Exam Rooms

Six exam rooms are designed to mirror outpatient clinical settings, each equipped with standard exam tables and furnishings. These rooms provide a space for students to demonstrate clinical competencies through observed, recorded performance assessments. Faculty facilitate and evaluate student performance, supporting skill development and ensuring readiness for real-world patient care.

Simulation Suite

The simulation suite offers students an immersive, hospital-like environment to practice safe and effective patient care. High-fidelity simulations take place across four fully equipped patient rooms, where students engage with lifelike manikins in realistic clinical scenarios. Separate control rooms and debriefing rooms allow faculty to facilitate and observe simulations.

Immersive Suite

A two-room Immersive Suite provides dynamic, interactive learning environments that scaffold and reinforce classroom instruction. With four full-wall and floor projections, the space can replicate diverse real-world settings—from a bustling emergency room to a patient’s home—allowing students to progressively build critical thinking and clinical reasoning.

Attending sim lab was a great learning experience. After participating in the scenarios, you really became more aware of the improvements that you can make to ensure you are providing safe and quality care for your patients and their family members.”
