UMass Boston

Housing Payment Information

Housing is billed separately from the University charges (tuition, fees and meal plan). Housing charges will not appear on your WISER account.

All billing will be viewable and on-line payments can be made through the Resident Portal. You can also send a check or money order (payable to PCER) to the following mailing address:

Office of Housing and Residential Life

240 Morrissey Blvd.

Boston, MA 02125

Will the cost of housing be covered by Financial Aid?

Housing is billed separate from the University billing in your WISER account. Residents are able to opt in to have any excess aid (once the University billing is covered) transfer to Housing. Any financial aid (i.e., grants, loans, scholarships, etc.) that is remaining after UMass Boston tuition and fees are paid, will be applied to the residence halls housing cost for any resident who has opted in to have excess aid sent to Housing.

Confirmed residential students are sent instructions on how to opt in to have excess aid transfer to Housing. There is an "opt in" option in their WISER account (the student MUST do this on their own). On average, students who opted into this program previously had $3,500 transferred over, covering part of their housing bill. This means that you are more than likely to have a balance on your housing bill after aid is transferred. Since you are likely to have a balance remaining even if you opt into the excess aid program, you are required to either make a full semester housing payment or make installment payments, whichever you choose. Any excess aid you have will then be applied to your bill once it is disbursed by the University in late September or early October

Excess Aid will be applied in batches starting in October, depending on when the aid is released to the school.

Any portion of the residence halls housing cost that is not paid by financial aid will be an out-of-pocket expense for the student. The full balance for each semester must be paid in full by November 15th for the fall semester and April 15th for the spring semester.

Please keep track of your password! While we are able to send you a temporary password if you forget your initial one, this process may delay your ability to make payment as it requires manual intervention from our office.

Through the Resident Portal, you can view your balance and make payments online under the ‘Payments’ section of the Resident Portal, where you can also view your complete payment history under the ‘Ledger’ tab, manage payment methods and request to set up recurring payments under the ‘Wallet’ tab, and make payments with the easy ‘Pay Now’ button.

You will be able to make online payments via ACH bank draft, Credit Card, or Debit Card. Please note that online payments may come with transaction fees depending on your payment method or card company, and that these are not determined by our office.

You are also able to make payment via check or money order. Please note that we can only accept checks or money orders made payable to "PCER," and that we are unable to accept check or money order made out any other way (such as payable to "UMass Boston" or "UMB Housing"). These can be delivered or mailed to our office at the following address:

Residence Hall East, First Floor
University of Massachusetts Boston
240 Morrissey Boulevard
Boston, MA 02125

Our new Resident Portal also features a Move-In Checklist, which includes making your initial August 15th payment prior to moving in. Additional information about move-in will be sent later this week, but please note that residents are required to make payment in order to move in. Your specific amount will depend on which of the two available payment plans you selected – see our recent “On-Campus Housing Bill Timeline” for more information!

Please let us know if you have any questions after following the above steps to register for and familiarize yourself with our new Resident Portal. Residents will also be able to contact us directly through the Portal – as this system is new to us as well, we ask that you please allow a few business days for us to best respond to your question.

If you have any further questions, please email us at housing@umb.edu
